Dahlia Dream Mix
Dahlia Dream Mix because we all Dream of a beautiful garden.
If you haven’t grown Dahlias from seed yet, I can’t wait for you to try—it’s such a joyful and magical experience! Don’t miss out on the chance to start your own Dahlia adventure, these seeds are just the beginning of something truly special!
Starting from seed is where the magic begins. Dahlia seed genetics are fascinating, they are know as Octoploids which means they have eight sets of chromosomes. This is what creates such an array of colours and shapes and why Dahlias seeds are so magical because your genetic combinations are limitless.
At Valley View Flowers, pollination is done naturally by bees. Dahlias are planted in rows by type, increasing the chance of cross-pollination within the same variety.
To start, sow Dahlia seeds indoors at least 4 to 8 weeks before you plan to plant them out.
I start seed germination by placing seeds in moist paper towels, then transfer to seed trays once viable. At Valley View Flowers, I wait about 3 weeks after the last spring frost to transplant our seedlings.
It is best to store seeds in a cool, dark, and dry place until you are reading to start germination.
